Hi,

I used an SNS to supplement for my first adopted child (starting at age 4 months) and am wondering about switching to a Lact-Aid for my second (probably will be placed at about the same age as my first). I didn't have a full supply with my first and I didn't feel the SNS helped increase my supply, though it certainly enticed an 'older' baby to latch. From what I've heard, the Lact-Aid is better at helping build a supply... but money is tight and I don't want to invest unless it is likely to make a big difference.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

The lact-aid is far superior to the SNS in my opinion. The lact-aid is not free flow so baby has to work to get milk out thus stimulating the breast to produce more. There are a number of Moms here who started out with the SNS and switched I am sure they will chime in.
With the lact-aid you can use a bottle conversion instead of the bags to save money. It is very easy to do. I saved the bags for when we were out and used the bottle at home. You simply take a small bottle with a normal nipple, make a small slit in the nipple and thread the lactaid top into it from the inside out. Place the nipple upside down in the bottle so the short tube is in bottle and screw the ring on the bottle to hold it tight. I made a holder for mine but some women just place it between their breasts or hold it.

Thanks, Laurie! Is there a picture anywhere of a bottle converted to a Lact-aid?

I think there used to be. Nona is the one that came up with the idea. Maybe she has pix somewhere.
