So I know this is slightly off topic but this is the only place where I can find women who may have experienced this with their babies. I'm still on the accelerated protocol but got some donor breast milk from a cousin we trust. I've been trying to mix it in with formula but DS is not happy about it. He's been on formula his whole life, 8 weeks today, and is on Alimentium which he was put on by foster mom's pediatrician at 9 days old. My pediatrician thinks it's unlikely he had such severe allergies that young and we are going to try and switch to Sensitive next week. The milk donor does not eat much dairy at all and my DS has had no signs of milk intolerance in terms of diarrhea, constipation, rashes, spit up, etc
I've been mixing BM in at ratio of 1:7 and he screams, seems to choke, and is in generally very fussy. When I lowered dilution to 1:14 he's fine but that is such a low dilution!! I talked to nurse, who is an LC, at eds office

Finishing here -- nurse at peds off who is an LC she didn't really know what it might me besides milk intolerance. I then talked to my LC who said I could just stop BM if it was a problem. She said it would be stretching to think taste or consistency would affect him at 1:7 dilution.
I really want to get some BM in him which is why I'm on the protocol but if he won't drink it I'm out of luck. Any suggestions or thoughts?

Was this frozen milk? Sometimes milk changes in flavor when frozen. Fresh breastmilk has a really sweet flavor. Frozen is not as sweet. I think it smells bad. My babies still drank it, but they were only on bm.

I would just slowly up it from 1:14. He will eventually take it. Try using some fresh bm that she just pumped and see if that makes a difference. It can be saved fresh for up to 7 days in the fridge.

Donor lives 4 hours away unfortunately. I think it tastes soapy so it might be lipase taste issue for him. Will keep slipping it in little at a time. Maybe he'll adjust or be more forgiving once I get some milk!

If the milk is taking on a soapy smell or flavour, you can scald it BEFORE it is frozen (obviously, you will have to have the donor do this as soon as it is removed from the breast). Bring the milk quickly to the point that the outside edges are bubbling, then cool milk very quickly. Once cool, place it in freezer-safe containers and store in the freezer. This may denature some of the live cells but the milk is still excellent quality for baby. See the instructions here for more details: http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/milkstorage/lipase-expressedmilk/

Just wanted to update. He is now taking donor milk no problem. We switched formula and taste was more similar as well as he probably just got used to it. He's also taking my breast milk just great. Thanks for all the tips!
