how often are you pumping? You need to be pumping every 2 hours and once at night.. It will take about 4 days to show an increase. Try to relax... stress will make your milk decrease

HI Nona, I am pumping every 2 hours.. FAITHFULLY. LOL. I get 2 ounces in the morning, and I am all proud and happy, then throughout the day I get the other 2 ounces, but from the rest of the pumping.

Hi, Try warm soothies or a warm washcloth on the breasts prior to pumping..also lecithin capsules have helped some women. 4 ounces a day is great,,,that is all the baby needs in one day to get all the needed immunites from the milk. The baby nursing will really help your supply, much more than a pump , As Nona said, try to relax,,get a few Lact-aids and you will be fine. Take care, Cathy

How long are you pumping for each time? I know that since you are pumping so often, that you don't want to spend all day sitting there pumping, but it would be a good idea to see if you can get a second letdown. Everyone is different, but I usually pump 15 minutes straight, and get a second letdown close to the end of the 15 minutes. Others recommend to pump for 7 minutes, take a break and drink some water, then pump another 7 minutes. This would be just like you were switching the baby from one breast to the other. That's all the advice I have. I wish I could help you more. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the advice. Ok, well I will try the warm washclothes. Maybe that will help. I usually pump for ten minutes straight. Then I usually massage and light jiggle, and then I will pump for another 5 or ten minutes. I do get more milk flow after the massage. Pumping, well it has become a big part of the day. I will try the things you all have told me and see if it helps. What is the other medicine you mentioned? What does it do?

Nona, I tried to do things a little different yesterday. I drank a huge glass of water before pumping, and did the warm wash clothes. I took the domperidone 45 minutes before I pumped as well. I did get a little over 4 ounces. So maybe I am getting out of that plateau? Is 80 mg of domperidone the most you can take? Could I increase it at all?

Hi Melissa, The most important thing you can do to increase milk supply is to pump frequently. This comes from the information from Peter Hartmann, Ph.D. You can read the research article here: http://mammary.nih.gov/reviews/lactation/Hartmann001/ It's best to stay at 80 mg domperidone for now. Try taking it 1/2 hour before meals and at bedtime. Also, try pumping and then hand expressing to make sure you get out every drop. If you don't know how to hand express, make an apt with a board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) and ask her to show you how. At the same time, she can show you how to use the lact-aid. You're doing GREAT. All you need is about 4 oz per day to provide all the immune benefits to you baby. Fondly,
