Hello - I heard yesterday that an herb called Goat's Rue is supposed to be good for increasing milk supply. Has anyone tried it?

Also, I heard somewhere that Vitamin B-6 reduces milk supply, so I've been searching for a multi-vitamin without it. All that I've found have it in huge doses. Does anyone know whether this is true about B-6 and know of a multi w/o it?

Margaret, I added goats rue when I was taking my herbs and I don't know that it did any more than what is on the protocol. As for the B-6 most vitamins do not have that much in it. My prenatal has 30 mg, that is not a lot. So if you find one under that. I have heard the same thing about B6 but I haven't had any problems with it and I was taking an added supplement of 50 mg. Lenore should know what amount is safe.

We use vit B 6 to treat Rayneaud's Phenomenon. Too much can lead to low milk supply. Under 50 mg should be fine.

I've added Goat's Rue recently, and think I 'm getting a small increase ... I was told by the LC that sold me the Goat's Rue that it takes a good 4-5 weeks to see results, so hang in there and stick with it. If you try it for a couple of weeks, you may not see much increase in supply.

I use goats rue as well and have seen a slight increase in supply.

I recently added Fennel Seed to my fenugreek and blessed thistle and have noticed a pretty decent increase after being on the fenugreek and blessed thistle for about 2 months with moderate results. Maybe this will help.

You can get the Fennel Seed at any health food/vitamin store just like the Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle. I notice such a big difference now that I've been on the Fennel Seed for a while now. If I don't take it, it's quite noticeable to me. :-) Hope this helps. It comes in capsule form, atleast the one I take does.

how much fennel seed capsules do you take daily? Sandra

I take 500 mg 3 times per day. That is what is recommended on the bottle. I didn't want to take anymore because I wasn't sure about over dosages with this one and really didn't have the time to investigate further. The reason I started taking it was because it's the main ingredient in "Mother's Milk Tea" So, I gave it a try. Worked for me. I still have a problem with production (still don't know why) but it's a huge difference when I don't take it.
