[color:"purple"] [/color] I have just posted once before, and I know this discussion has gone round and round. I met with a lactation consultant in my area today, because I had a few questions. She was not as encouraging as you all have and continue to be. We are awaiting the birth of our daughter through surrogacy.(my sis is surro) I "stole" her pump in style, cause she wont be needing it. However when I visited the consultant today, she said the PIS was not "designed" to do what I wanted it to do. She told me I would need to rent a hospital grade pump. I know this may sound like a lot of whining, but I have not yet begun to pump and want to "do everthing right." Does the hospital grade cycle quicker ? Any help you can offer would be great. THANKS

I know that theoretically the PIS isn't officially as reliable as the Hospital Grade pumps, but in practice it works great for those of us who use it to induce lactation. It's alot cheaper and just as effective for most of us. It's one thing to say it's not good enough, but it's another to see hundreds of women using it successfully to bring in their milk, you know?

I have had no problems with my PIS. I feel like it has done as good a job as a hospital grade could have. IMO

I was told the same thing and got the rental. Now I wish I had just listed to Nona and Lenore and Kerri and EVERYONE. While I'm only at 3 - 5 ounces per day, this a big improvement on the 1-2 ounces I was getting with the hospital grade pumps. I've also heard they can damage your breast tissue they are so strong.

Trust me on this one, listen to the ladies here. Beware, your LC will be irritated when you tell her, "I'm going with the PIS because of the advice on Lenore's website." I've gotten that reaction from three local LC's, and all three are very well known.

Hope this helps!

Aloha,
Christina
