Hi, everyone! I'm trying to work out the most effective way to proceed with the accelerated protocol for my situation. I'd appreciate any advice you have to offer.

I started the acc. protocol on Aug 12. The baby is due Sept 9. If she delivers on her due date, that will be 29 days on the protocol.

#1 If she delivers early, should I stop the bcp right then no matter how many days I've been on the protocol? If that is the case, should I start nursing the baby with a lact-aid and pump after each nursing? This seems like the obvious thing to do, but you know what can happen when you assume....

#2 If she goes past her due date, should I continue to take the dom and bcp until she delivers, or stop after 30 days (Sept 10) and start pumping?

I will have a couple of days grace period, as 'A' has said that she wants to nurse while in the hospital with the baby.

It takes a few days for the bc pill to leave your system, so I'd stop the pill a week or two before the due date. So maybe go to the end of August, then stop taking the bcpill, continue with the domperidone, and start pumping every few hours.

but then she will have only been on the protocol for just over 2 weeks. What about stopping at the due date since birthmom 'A" is planning to nurse the baby at birth. Ameless , how long will she plan to nurse? Is this a private adoption where you know that it is fairly secure? It would also be great if 'A' will continue to pump for you to use in the lactaid while you establish your supply.

Hi Lalle. It is a private adoption. The baby will be a bio nephew(husband's brother's). Is it secure? Well, I guess as secure as it can be at this point before she has seen him and held him. We have given her encouragement about keeping him since we met her, and she seems to be very intent on sticking to her plan. However, having had one myself....I know that it will probably be even more difficult than she expects. Just had a great talk on the phone with her tonight btw!

Anyhow, she plans to nurse him while in the hospital with him. We've had conversations about that being 'her' time to be his mother. We talked tonight and her plan is for us to leave the hospital with him. She actually mentioned pumping for me when she came out to meet us, but we haven't talked about it since. If she offers again I will give her all the help and encouragement that I can, but I won't bring it up again unless she does. It just seems like it would be a really hard thing for her to do.

I can't believe I'm leaving 2 weeks from tomorrow!

How exciting! We knew our birthmom too. She is the foster daughter of some friends of ours. She felt so secure about us adopting her child that she didn't prepare for the emotional side of it very well. It was difficult, but that didn't change her mind. I am very excited for you.

Hi Ameless,

Congratulations on your impending arrival!!

In situations like this we recommend that you complete the full 30 days of the protocol. If your baby arrives early, you simply breastfeed with the help of the lact-aid filled with either donor milk or formula. The full 30 days will give your breasts the boost they will need to start producing milk. Once the 30 days are up you can stop the bcp, maintain the domperidone and then add the herbs. At that point you can also start pumping for about 10 minutes after feeds for added stimulation.

Hope this helps. Fondly,

Thanks, Lenore! I will keep you all updated on the results. I think I've already noticed some breast changes and have been sore a couple of mornings recently.
