Let me first start off by saying that this is my first time posting in almost 1-1/2 years. I was successful in inducing lactation when my dh and I adopted our son back in Dec. 2001. On the day he was born, I was pumping 36 ounces a day. I nursed him exclusively for one year which was the best experience for me.

Now my dh and I are in the process of updating our homestudy to add a baby girl to our family. Knowing how quickly we got our son, I decided to start the protocol using the yasim and domperidone. I started the protocol on cd1 (it just happened that way) on December 29th. I have been spotting lightly/moderately since December 29th!!!! This is really beginning to get on my nerves. There is still no baby in sight as we have officially begun the process on 3/1/04. Due to a family emergency we had to put our adoption plans on hold briefly.

I am just wondering if the spotting is common while you take yasmin. I never had any spotting the first time I did the protocol thought I was on Diane (sp?) I went almost 1-1/2 years without an AF.

I was thinking about stopping the protocol, letting AF come and then starting it up again, but I have had such great changes already that deep down I don't want to start over from scratch. Does anyone have any advice for me? I am desperate. This is killing the romance! (though my dh is 100% supportive)

Would switching BCP's help?

Regards,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Congratulations on your wonderful breastfeeding experience!!

Well we loved the Diane too but unfortunately it's been linked with a higher than average incident of deep vein thrombosis so we can no longer recommend it. The company has been in touch with us and assures us that it's actually ok, that more studies have been done...but we're still not comfortable recommending it.

Unfortunately as well, breakthrough bleeding is quite common on the protocols....I bled all the way through the protocols both times that I did it but also when I stopped the bcp and started pumping, the bleeding stopped. The first time around I didn't see AF for a year, and this second time around I haven't seen AF since September.

I understand it's difficult and your husband is a darling for supporting you...but try to hang in there without going off the Yasmin. It's really well worth the effort in the long run.

Fondly,

Lenore Goldfarb, Ph.D.,CCC,IBCLC
